A solid wood case that closes over its checkers, dice and cups. Points in walnut and maple marquetry, a solid base that gives a soft sound under the dice, brass clasps and hinges. Measured on the object before dispatch.
Wood is a living material: grain and colour vary from one case to another. Dimensions given to within ± 2 mm.
Prepared within 24 to 48 working hours, free tracked delivery to the UK, 4 to 8 working days. The case travels closed, padded with foam, in a double-wall carton. Checkers, dice and cups are stored inside: nothing moves.
30 days to change your mind from receipt, no questions asked. You write to us, we arrange the return.
The wood: a soft, dry cloth, a dab of wax once a year. The lined cups: a barely damp cloth, dried immediately, never alcohol or solvents. Keep the case closed, away from direct sunlight and radiators.
Five years against any material or manufacturing defect: hinge, clasp, lifting point, cracked checker. A lost checker or die is replaced individually, in the same colour.
The case leaves closed, with no invoice or price in the parcel. Add a note when you order: we'll write it by hand on a card slipped inside. For a set date, write to us before ordering.

It's really very pretty, the pieces are magnetic and the size is good. The underside of the pieces is covered in felt, which protects the board.

Complete and very well designed. Honestly, it'll be an ideal travel companion.

As described. The board and pieces are properly magnetic, even if the magnets aren't very strong. I can only recommend it.

It's really great, perfect, I loved it. Beautiful design and good materials.

The pieces are really great. Shame I didn't have this set when I was a child. I recommend it!!!

Good chess set. When I ordered it, I thought it would be a little bigger.

The chess set is great.

Perfectly made. I'm happy. Thank you!

It's perfectly adequate for playing chess.

Perfect.

Folding magnetic walnut chessboard.

Great set, I really liked it. I recommend it to everyone and it arrived before the expected delivery date.
The case
Solid walnut, maple interior, brass hinges and clasp. Assembled by hand in France. Closed, it stands upright on a shelf.
The 24 points
Inlaid in two woods, cut and inlaid one by one. Never printed: they don't fade.
The 30 checkers
Turned from the wood, two tones, 28 or 35 mm depending on the size. They glide across the wood without catching.
4 dice, 2 cups, 1 doubling cube
Lined and padded cups: the dice come out cleanly, without bouncing off the board. The doubling cube to raise the stakes.
The illustrated rules
Set-up, the role of the doubling cube, the first three rolls. Six pages: you're playing in five minutes, even if you've never played before.
A real contact
A real person, reachable 7 days a week by email or through the form, who has already lost on this very set.
What you pay for
Unlike standard models, our solid walnut backgammon set stands out for its careful finishes, its marquetry and its wooden checkers. A refined object, designed to last for years.
As a gift
A backgammon set is a gift for someone you want to spend time with: a father, a couple, a friend. The checkers are stored, everything is ready. You open it, you play, and the evening begins.

The Philidor commitment
A set from the Maison is guaranteed for five years: wood, hinges, clasp, marquetry, cups. A lifting point, a cracked checker, a failing clasp: we repair or replace, individually, in the same wood.
And if it arrives broken? The case travels closed, padded with foam, in a double-wall carton. If it isn't intact on arrival, a photo is enough: we send the piece or the case again, no arguments and without waiting for the first one to come back. And if you don't like it: 30 days to send it back, fully refunded.
In the same spirit
The other sizes and the travel cases, in the same wood.
The ones people really ask us before ordering.
Yes. Backgammon takes five minutes to learn: you roll two dice, move your checkers and bear them off the board before your opponent. The illustrated rules are under the lid, six pages, with the set-up and the first three rolls. A game lasts twenty minutes. It's the game you bring out in the evening without thinking, not the one you put away because you'd have to reread the rules.
The 38 cm is the house size: open, 38 × 46 cm, 28 mm checkers, it fits on a coffee table and slips into a bag. The 48 cm is the Sunday size: 35 to 38 mm checkers, full-hand cups, it needs a table and holds its own on it. If in doubt, take the 38.
Inlaid: each point is a piece of wood cut from a different wood to the base, then inlaid by hand in our partner workshops in France. You see it in raking light and feel it under your finger. A printed point is smooth, uniform, and fades over time.
The wood makes a sound, yes: the dice falling from the cup, the checker set down on the point. It's the sound of a real game, soft and short, not the clatter of plastic. The cups are lined so the dice come out cleanly without bouncing off the board. On a glass table, put the case on a mat: the sound becomes that of wood again.
That's what it's made for. Closed, the case is a block of walnut with a brass clasp: it sits on a console, a coffee table or a bookshelf, upright or flat. Open, the marquetry is decoration in itself. It's not a game someone forgot to put away, it's an object with its own place.
The cups are lined and padded so the dice come out cleanly. The exact lining material is given in the features table of each model: we write it down in black and white, leather or faux leather, because people ask and it deserves a clear answer.
Yes: brass hinges and clasp, checkers and dice stored inside, nothing moves. The 38 cm fits in a travel bag. For a pocket set, see the 30 cm size.
We'll send you a single replacement, in the same colour and diameter. Write to us with the name of the model and the colour.
The two halves are solid wood, assembled and oiled: they don't warp. What tires a case is a radiator right next to it or a summer in full sun behind a window. Keep it closed, somewhere sheltered, and it will last for decades.
Dispatched within 24 to 48 working hours, free tracked delivery to the UK in 4 to 8 working days. For a specific date, write to us before ordering: we'll confirm what's achievable and, if needed, offer express shipping.
